4 Common Home Printing Issues

There was once a time when home computers were just a pipe dream, can you believe that? Indeed, it has not even been that long since personal computers were first introduced to the market. Of course, these days, it is not only common to see computers in the home, but more likely that every person in the home has their own computer.  And then all these computers typically share other peripherals like web connectivity and printers.

And those homes which do have networked printers all probably experience these 4 common home printer issues.

Issue #1:  SLOW PRINTING

First of all, you need to know that printing speed can vary by machine, so simply getting a different printer might solve this problem. However, if you have come to find that your printer is moving slower than usual or slower than you would prefer, there are a few things you can do.

For one, simply adjusting the print quality will increase the print speed. To be honest, most of the time you can probably just use the draft quality print speed; unless, perhaps, you need bold font for a professional presentation or maybe a resume.  

Changing print quality is easy. You can change your default setting in the Print and Properties Windows application. You can also chose this option with every single print job.

Bonus:  this will save you ink!

Secondly, though, slow printing is sometimes the result of a slow connection on networked printers. Thus, to fix this issue, try connecting your printer directly to the computer.

Issue #2:  INCONSISTENT or LIGHT PRINT JOB

Most of the time, if your print job comes out looking funny, it is an ink problem. If the print is spotty or lighter than you expected, or uneven or has horizontal lines, that definitely means the issue is the ink.  It could be that the Brother ink at 123inkcartridges.ca has run out but it might also be that you need to clean the printer head.

Issue #3:  WRONG PRINTER

Sometimes you order a print and it never happens.  Check to see if the job was sent to the correct printer.  You can fix this problem by finding the “Printers and Faxes” tab in the “Devices and Printers” application.  Find the printer you want to use and assign this as the default printer.

Issue #4:  INK CARTRIDGE EMPTY

If it is empty, replace it; but sometimes it is not empty but the printer still prompts you to replace it.  For this issue you have to look up the manual for the printer as it could be any number of issues, which vary by manufacturer and model.
