In terms of popularity Internet Explorer is said to be most popular web browser mostly because it comes embedded in the set up of your operating system. Every new version comes along with features that eases your experience of web surfing. But the problem is that most of the time all the good features are lying back in the help files. Some of the tips that may make your life easier while surfing and using internet explorer are narrated below

Filling web forms is a tedious job again and again you have to fill in the same information but with internet explorer auto complete feature turned on you can make it an easy task. It will automatically save the URLs, passwords and the usernames to convene the process for next time login. To activate auto complete one need to go to tools, internet options content and turn on or off the auto complete feature as required by the user

If you are not using outlook express as your mail client be sure that you have made appropriate settings. Otherwise the internet explorer automatically opens the outlook explorer window every time and it can be quite annoying. To make the required settings go to tools, Internet options and programs tab

While browsing if you want each tab to open up separately instead of changing the landing page to newer one, all you need to do is hold the shift key and left click on the relevant link. The new link will open up in the new window and the landing page remains there.

Instead of going in the task bar or tool bars to change the appearance of your browsing window the simpler short cut or hot key for internet explorer to switch between normal mode and full screen mode is F11.

Instead of typing the full name of the website with www’s and the dot com. Simply enter the actual name and press CTRL + ENTER, The universal resource locator will complete itself automatically but keep in mind that this short key works for dot com domain name only.

The internet explorer automatically keeps the history of your browsing until and unless you don’t want it to. So even if one has not book marked any website, it can be easily located by going through the history.

If you are having installation problems with internet explorer there is an easy way to repair it. Just go to control panel in the start menu and click on add and remove programs. Select the Internet explorer in the list then Internet tools and click add remove button. It will give you options. Check the repair Internet explorer option and it will automatically fix the software program for any problems.

It is of great concern that while you switch from one browser to other your data won’t be lost. You can always import cookies from other browsers in Internet explorer by clicking on file and selecting import and export option it will result in initiation of wizard that will guide you through the process.

By following these simple techniques you can use the Internet explorer like you have never used it before.

The term Wi max is abbreviation of the phrase Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access which is a well known protocol in the telecommunication sector and refers to Internet access in a wireless environment and also while on the go. When you talk about Internet access these days three options click your mind that include dial up, broadband and Wi Fi.

Mostly in homes people used to use dial up, these are basic in nature and usually work slow. If any of the consumers are still using dial up connections there can be only two possibilities

? The lesser need as compared to cost incurred while using DSL or cabel modem

? No Internet access is available other than dial up

Second in the list is broad band , broad band can further be categorised into DSL and cabel modem. Usually cable does not offer committed bandwidth and the speed of the internet decreases with the increase of number of users while this is not the case when a person is using DSL. Mostly in these days people use DSL that comes in package with their telecommunication service provider.

Third is Wi Fi in whose nodes are present at certain points and you can use the Internet while in range of them but most of the time they cause network problems due to non availability of signals.

All these Internet access options have some or other problem associated with them. Wi Max is the most modern technology that is wireless, has wide coverage like mobile phone networks and and is cost efficient. You don’t have to dial and connect to your Internet Service Provider and wait for connection like in conventional Internet Access. All you need to do is to switch on your system and Wi max will connect you to the world of Internet automatically.

Wi max is not machine specific which means if you have access to Wi max it can work with your notebook, laptop, personal computer, music players, cameras, phones and cam coders. All in all with Wi max at your hand you have a world of possibilities ahead in term of usage. As Wi max is built on fourth generation technology it offers open network that promises wider access and both voice and picture data at optimum level.

Wi max is similar in operation to Wi Fi but its range is not limited. It can offer same quality of services to very large number of consumers at a single point of time. The antenna built in system of consumer will receive the signals from Wi Max tower as soon as the system is started. Wi Max has only access to areas where telecommunication companies have installed towers and broad band access is available.

Usually the data is transmitted at speed of 70 MB per second. The biggest difference between Wi Fi and Wi max is not of speed but of network coverage and distance. It usually can work efficiently even at distance of fifty kilometer from the base station.

For a Wi max set up at home your Internet service provider needs to set up a base station ten miles away from home and you need to have laptop or PC that has built in Wi max access if it is not already there you have to upgrade your PC. Once it is upgraded the data can be transmitted from Internet service provider to your machine. Usually the cost for Wi max would be less because no wires are included as in cable modems.

In case of networking at home you just need to install router and then data is transmitted to associated machines. Moreover, one can also use combination of WI FI and Wi max in home networking by gathering data at router and then disseminating to networked machines through Wi Fi set up.

Wi Max is not a threat to other modes of Internet rather it is designed to accommodate other mediums so that they can be used together in groups.

There is incredible increase of malware, threats and vulnerabilities by email. These threats are found in form of worms and Trojans that can seriously affect the performance of your system. Most of these threats are sent in hidden file extension that is unable to understand for common users. The common use of email in all matters of life has given hackers a way to distribute threats and vulnerabilities in the internet. It is very easy for hackers to circumvent the security implemented through firewalls. Emails are used to install worms and Trojans at your firm to get confidential information and control over your services. Instructive virus can easily infect your computer through email.

Companies fail to acknowledge the risk of crucial data stolen within their network set ups. Staff usually sent such emails that contain offensive, sexist and racist material. Such type of emails can make your firm vulnerable in the eyes of public.

Malicious attachment and contents

Loveletter and Mellissa are such type of viruses that illustrate infection with attachments and contents of emails. They send such emails with the use of trust that exists between colleagues and friends. These viruses become active when a user opens attractive attachments named as me.pif and sexpic.

Email triggering

Virus known as Class ID allows hackers to hide the real extension of the file. They conceal the file extension of cleanfile.jpg that is a nasty html file. Another worm named as Nimda circumvents various email security tools and breaks up corporate networks and servers. It enters computer in form of vulnerable version of outlook express and internet explorer.

HTML mail

These days, there is widespread use of html email that includes active contents and scripts. These embedded scripts allow code and programs to execute on client computer. Some viruses based on html scripts can easily add to your machine when mail is opened. It is useless to trust on email security regarding attachment check. B virus and BadTrans virus combined with html, try to propagate your system with malicious infection.

Why anti-virus software or a firewall is not enough

Some firms install firewalls and antivirus software for security. It is an effective way for the protection of intranet. However, firewalls cannot check the contents of email that is sent and received by authorized users. It shows that email threats and vulnerabilities can easily pass through your security system. In the same manners, virus protection software cannot protect all email attacks.

Solution:

Multi-tier security system is needed to tackle complex security issues. You need to implement content orientated and communication countermeasures like firewall, antivirus, intrusion, anti-spam, IM/P2P and web content filtering both at branch offices and head quarters of your firms. It will form a family of multi-layered security appliances. It is essential to set countermeasures in form of software that fit for fixed and mobile endpoints like laptops, desktops and smart phones. Applications related to specific software gateways provide customize and advanced protection for email and web hosting. These are some effective counter measures for the security of your organization that will save you from various threats and vulnerabilities.

Detecting And Stopping Network Attacks

A network attack is the type of malicious attempt to damage the security of network. There are many reasons of hackers attack on corporate networks. These network attacks are referred as hackers or crackers attacks. Various malicious and hackers activities are as follow:

Illegal use of user’s privileges and accounts

Steal of software code

Steal of hardware

Execution of code to damage current system

Execution of code to corrupt and damage data

Modification of store data

Attempts to deplete bandwidth and network resources

The reasons of attacking on networks

Some people want to seek some sort of fame through their action of crashing websites. There are some possible motives that invoke them for network attacks.

Politics

Terrorism

Industrial espionage

Greed

Criminal payoffs

Racism

There are four types of network attacks that include:

Internal attacks

External attacks

Unstructured attacks

Structured attacks
