Install Sun Solaris
The installation of sun Solaris is a challenge to new system admins who have never install it before. It is simple and easy process but first time installation generates some confusion that is linked with some unknown and unexplored things.Before you start:
You need to download the set up of sun Solaris from the sun. com website. If you have dial up or slow speed network connection, you can download sun downloader manager. You need to have 10 Gigabytes space to manipulate and download it. You need to review the checksum to maintain the integrity of data. There is list of checksum for windows or Linux operating system, you need to review it first before installation.
Hardware Compatibility
There are two binary version of sparc that can easily install on 64 bit x 64 system and 32×64 systems. If you need some further installation information that you can get from sun website. You can check hardware compatibility list given on your system but if you are unable to find it, here is some overview of recommended hardware that must contain in the system for installation.
- CPUs that meet following requirements
- AMD—Athlon,
- Athlon64 (64 bit)
- Opteron (64 bit)
- Geode
- Intel—Pentium
- Celeron
- Nocona (64bit)
There is need of 256 Mb in memory but a character base installation only needs 128 MB space. In the operating system, there is need of about 5 GB but 12 GB is considered good when you need to install additional software as java enterprise system.
Now you need to select the type of console for hardware on the machine where you want to install sun Solaris OS. Select the Solaris OS version that matches to the configuration of hardware. If you use x86 system, select the default selection. In the next step, select option 3 with the use of Solaris ZFS in form a root file system. When option 3 is selected, there is display of hardware list that you need to remember for further assistance. Use keyboard error key to select the language and press enter key. Then the process of system configuration starts and selects the display option in the screen. There, select the language and press continue. Sun Solaris installation console appears and shows installation message. Press F2 to continue it. It will start installation process. Next, network window appears, use default answer if you are not maintain any network.
You will then see a DHCP network configuration option, select it and continues it by pressing F2. In the next step, IPV6 screen appears, use default setting and press F2 again. When confirmation window appears, it will ask about your agreement for the selection, click it ok as well. In the same manners, you will see policy selection, security policy window and NFSv4 domain name windows, choose default setting for all and press F2 to continue. Then, there is display of time zone window, select it in accordance to your area specification. The remote service window displays, select secure by default from it. Wait for few seconds then, when you find DVD/CD eject option, press F2 to continue. In the same manner, you will find different windows like Reboot, license, geographical regions, system locale window, Root file system, software selection, Remote Mounts, and Profile window, you must select default options for all and press F2 to complete installation process.
You will see installation progress window, wait for some time, as the process of installation is initialized and completed in few seconds. When it is completed, you will see a username window; enter user name and password there that was assigned to you during installation process.
