Windows is an operating system that is widely used by people. It is user friendly and provides with various in-built applications that enable the user to draw many benefits from it when working on a computer. There are several tips and tricks related to Windows usage that can make life easy for all computer users who use windows as their operating system. Here are a few tips and tricks to get you going for different versions of Windows that you may be using.
- If you wish to speed up your computer and de-fragment the disk for the purpose, then there certain tips that you should follow. Before you start de-fragmentation, you should close or stop all the programs and software since the program accesses the hard disk over an over again. After doing so, you should begin the process of de-fragmentation.
- Similarly, the cause of the slow speed of your computer is a filled up recycle bin. You should empty all contents of the recycle bin which will not only improve the speed of the computer but also make disk-fragmentation much easier.
- Should always keep free space in your hard drive. If there is only a little free space in your hard drive, then all programs and software respond and run very slow. You should always keep the free space more than 15 percent of the volume.
- There are some icons on your desktop that do not need any description for example, the internet explorer. So if you want to hide the desktop icon text on windows vista, then there is a simple trick. Just right-click on the shortcut, and choose Rename. Now hold down the Alt key and type in 255 on the keypad to the right of the keyboard. You can’t use the number keys right above the keyboard, they won’t work. If you have a laptop, you can turn on numlock and then use the little number keys next to the regular letters.
- If you are using Windows Vista, then you can stop an application from running at Start up. You can open Control Panel, and then type “startup” into the search box. The link for “Stop a program from running at startup” shows up immediately. Now you can see the Windows Defender screen that enables you to manage the startup programs. You can choose to Remove or just Disable any startup item using this panel, as well as lots of other useful information so that you can see each item in more detail.
- Again, when using Windows Vista, you can delete your temporarily files by a simple shortcut. Temporary files build up in your computer’s memory and slow down the speed. So if you want a quick disk clean up after doing a lot of editing or something that generates large temporary files, Just type in %TEMP% into the start menu search box and press enter. You’ll immediate be taken to the temporary files folder, where you can delete whatever you feel like.
By following these simple tips and tricks you can actually improve the speed of your computer. Moreover, this ensures a regular clean-up of your system and makes it free of any unnecessary files or data.
